Mogadishu, Somalia (waryatv) - The United States Navy has claimed another victory against pirates off the coast of Africa. The USS Ashland (LSD-48), a Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship, repelled an attack from a pirate skiff near Djibouti.

The pirates began shooting on the Ashland on Saturday morning, about 380 miles off Djibouti, a nation that facing Yemen across the mouth of the Red Sea.

According to the U.S. Navy, the Ashland destroyed the skiff and captured the suspected hijackers. Since March, International efforts to strop African piracy have resulted in over 21 arrests from failed hijacking attempts.

The frigate USS Nicholas captured five suspected Somali pirates on March 31. In December, the Dutch government freed 13 suspected pirates after the African Nation refused the prosecution.
