President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro) chaired the 28th session of Somaliland’s Council of Ministers today at the Presidential Palace, alongside Vice President Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi. The meeting focused on four critical areas: national security, economic resilience, drought response, and legal reform.
Interior Minister Abdalle Mohamed Carab reported that peace and public order continue to hold across Somaliland’s six regions, with law enforcement effectively managing incidents and no major threats detected. The Council reaffirmed its commitment to sovereignty and the rule of law.
Finance Minister Abdullahi Hassan Adan presented a positive fiscal outlook, highlighting progress in revenue collection, improved aid management, and ongoing collaboration with the World Bank. He outlined the preparatory framework for the 2026 National Budget aimed at strategic, development-focused expenditure.
Vice President Aw Abdi, chairing the newly formed National Drought Response Committee, updated on coordinated relief efforts. Task forces are mobilizing essential supplies—water, food, and medicine—to drought-affected districts, supported by a centralized data monitoring system. An urgent call was made to international partners for assistance.
Justice Minister Yoonis Ahmed Yoonis and Attorney General Cali Baashe Mohamed introduced the second draft of the Legal Aid Services Bill, designed to expand equitable access to justice, especially for vulnerable groups. The bill, grounded in national and international standards, will now undergo stakeholder consultations.
President Irro commended the Council’s focus and urged rapid implementation, stating, “Our agenda is clear: secure the nation, grow the economy, protect our people, and ensure justice for all.” The session closed with a unified commitment to turning policy into progress for Somaliland’s citizens.
