In a significant session held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Somaliland convened for their 130th meeting, presided over by President Muse Bihi Abdi and Vice President Abdirahman Abdilahi Ismail (Sailici). The council addressed key national issues, including security, elections, defense, health, budget preparation, and fisheries development.

Minister of Interior, Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, provided a comprehensive briefing on the country’s security status and the broader Horn of Africa region, ensuring the council is informed on current security dynamics.

Economic updates were delivered by Minister of Financial Development, Dr. Saad Ali Shire, who outlined plans for the 2025 budget. Health Minister Hassan Mohamed Ali (Gafaadhi) discussed ongoing health concerns, including dengue fever, while Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Development, Mohamud Warsame Jama, shared strategies for enhancing the fisheries sector, crucial for Somaliland’s community.

The council affirmed that elections will proceed as scheduled and emphasized robust national defense measures against threats to Somaliland’s sovereignty. Citizens are urged to prepare for both the elections and the defense of the nation.

For the first time in history, the Cabinet distributed the draft of the general penal code, presented by Minister of National Assembly Relations, Abdinasir Muhammad Hassan Buuni, and Attorney General Abdirahman Jama Hayaan, marking a pivotal step in Somaliland’s legislative development.
